Bon voyage to Ms. McCray, Ms. Teller and the six seniors who will be presenting at the Hewlett Foundation’s “Deeper Learning” Conference in Detroit.

THIS Tuesday (9/12) we will be having a new parent social from 5:30-6:15 in the Great Space followed by Parent Advisory Group Meeting 6:15-7:00. Our focus for this meeting will be on priorities for the year and the Crafts Fair. If you are interested or willing to have a leadership role with the Crafts Fair this fall (11/18), please let Sarah Compton ( know.

Tuesday - Sophomores kick off the Africa Rising Expedition.

Our open house is THIS Thursday. It starts at 6:30 for new parents and 7pm for returning parents. The evening will end by 8:30pm.

The CBHS Musical this year will be The Addams Family in the DHS theater, the weekend of January 26th. Save the dates.

Even if your child does not eat school lunch, if you might qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch, please turn in the application. This can qualify your child for scholarships as well as all sorts of reduced fees on everything from Quests to standardized tests.

Please welcome our new .5 receptionist and registrar, Ms Koni. Ms. Koni was a Readiness Facilitator for families at the YMCA, and she previously ran a daycare in her native Congo. Olga also was an administrative assistant for a Congolese school as well as for the UN. In addition to English, Olga can communicate in French, Portuguese, Lingala, Swahili and Kikongo.

Join a CBHS music group this week! Tuesdays and Thursdays for Vocal Ensemble (before school) & Wednesdays and Fridays for House Band (before school)… Meet with Ms. Stubbs in the first floor PATHS music room (by the elevator).

New Chromebook Users
1) Watch for a new protocol to help you to distinguish and protect your chromebook.
2) Chromebook Apps of the Week: Google Keep (like post-its) and “My Study Life” (combines “to do list” and calendar function, geared to students)

Enter the $100 Student Design Competition for the new Pathways to Success. Entry forms are outside Mr. Pierce’s office. Entries are due this Friday.

Would you like to create a team of fellow Smarty-Pants to enter the state-wide HS Quiz Team competition? Enter your team at the Sign-Up Board in the Great Space by Friday.

Bi-Lingual and Multi-Lingual Students: Share your talents with the school community by becoming a Language Ambassador. Sign up on the Sign-Up.

From now on, any proposed schedule change must be made using the “Schedule Change Request Form” available outside Mr. Pierce’s office or from a Guidance Counselor.

Juniors and Seniors: Off-Campus Lunch begins today for those who’ve obtained this permission. A few reminders.
    1.    Student behavioral rules remain in effect during any off-campus time during the school day. 

    2.    All students who head off-campus during the school day need to sign out – through Ms. Kierstead’s office. There is no need to sign back in if you get to class on time. Students who are late will need to sign back in through the main office – and receive the consequences.

    3.    Juniors may NOT take other students as passengers. Seniors with appropriate licensing credentials may take other seniors as passengers. 

Off-campus privileges during Acad Supp for juniors and seniors on Honor Roll will not begin this week as we take some more time to clarify who has this permission and privilege.

Thanks to the four candidates willing to serve our school community as the CBHS student representative to the school board for the next year: Abdiweli Abdalla, Imti Hassan, Phoebe Kolbert and Tiana Urey. Each candidate will have the opportunity to speak about their candidacy for up to two minutes at Wednesday’s school meeting. We will vote during crew on Thursday.

Thanks to the 30 students who were willing to serve in Cabinet this year! The 9th grade and “At-Large” members were chosen by lottery at Friday’s meeting:
New 9th Grade Rep: Declan McMahon and Alternate: Sidonia Summers
New At Large Rep: Carli Bliss and Alternate: Margarida Celestino
All students are welcome to attend Cabinet meetings, most Fridays (including this one) at 2:40.

There will be an election for the junior spot on Cabinet during crew this Thursday. The candidates (Muaaz Ajail, Ethan Haapala, Francesca Houran, Oumalkaire Omar, Suzanna Sylvain and Pita Yanga) are invited to submit a written statement about their candidacy of up to 200 words that will appear on the ballot. It must be submitted to Mr. Pierce ( electronically by this Wednesday at 8am.

We would like to have more student leadership with this year’s Craft Fair to orchestrate student participation and volunteers. If you are interested in being the student co-chairs of the Crafts Fair, please see Mr. Pierce by this Tuesday.

Tuesday - Sophomores will be engaged in the Africa Rising kick-off on Tuesday during Blocks 4, 5 and 6 . They will attend crew, lunch, and acad (including exceeds reading) as normal.

Thursday - Crew – Senior Quest Meeting and 9-12 Elections
