Headline News 
Thanks for your help in creating a smooth and energized start to the 2018-19 school year. It was great to see so many of you at the parent social last week (thanks PAG!), and we hope to see all of you at Open House this Thursday night (9/13) at 6:30 for new CBHS parents and 7pm for returning folks. 

New CBHS apparel will be available at open house. Bring your wallet or checkbook.
Auditions for the fall musical, Heathers, is Tuesday and Wednesday after school.
Thanks for everyone's patience with the new online system for district paperwork. Please still complete and have your student return the purple paper health form, the CBHS fieldwork form and the chromebook form..
Help Wanted
Let me know if you are interested in serving as one of the grade level Parent Community Liaisons. 

Empty 2 liter bottles are needed for a biology lab. It's for our ecojar lab (creating mini ecosystems to investigate ecological communities as systems). Please have your student bring them into Ms. Crowley (Rm. Haiti)

Open House is this Thursday night (6:30-8:30, 7pm start for returning parents). Mr. Pierce is looking for 8 student ambassadors (grades 10-12) to help welcome and direct parents. He is also seeking students willing to help with translation in French, Spanish, Arabic and Somali See Mr. Pierce FMI.


Do you have some ideas for how to improve the METRO? The METRO is looking for 3 CBHS students to serve on their advisory committee. The committee meets 3 times a year. The first meeting will be Wednesday, September 26, at 2 PM. See Mr. Pierce to sign up.


Seniors: Anyone interested in making the Class of 2019’s “Movin’ on Up” sign. See Mr. Pierce.

Would you like to propose a new X Block for the fall, complete one of the proposal forms outside Mr. Pierce’s office by this Thursday at 2:30.

Juniors and Seniors: 1) Off-Campus Privileges will begin Thursday 9/13, but only for eligible students who’ve already turned in signed paperwork. Other eligible students will have to wait till next week. Students who do not turn in paperwork this week will be not be eligible for Off-Campus Privileges this trimester.

2) The following teachers are interested in teacher aides: Ms Doane (any block), Ms Kutvirt (BK 5), Mr. Morales (BK 2&5), Ms McCray (BK2&5) and Ms. Natarajan (BK3&BK4). See the teacher FMI.  Paperwork is available in the drawers outside Mr. Pierce’s office.

Please sign up to make an announcement at our school meeting (each Wednesday, starting this week) on the white board in the Great Space outside Mr. Pierce’s office. Would you be interested in performing at a future school meeting (eg: playing music, singing, juggling, sharing photography, etc.)? If so, sign up on the Sign Up Board and see Mr. Pierce.

Schedule Changes: Starting on Monday, students will be asked to fill out a schedule change form for any requests. A parent signature on these forms may be waived by me or a counselor, depending on the circumstance. Schedule changes will require a parent, advisor and teacher signature after next week.

Join the expanded Cabinet this year! We need one more representative from 10th, 11th and 12th grades. If you’re interested in being a cabinet representative for your grade, please sign up on the Sign Up Board by TODAY Monday, September 10th at 2:30. Candidates will have a brief opportunity to address their class. Elections will be held on the 17th. Cabinet meetings typically take place on Fridays after school. Telling Room’s  first ever Open House! Between 4 and 6pm, at our studio on Commercial Street. All are welcome.

Thursday -8am Barnard College visits

Students interested in the CBHS Literary Magazine (The Blue Heron) attend an informational meeting Thursday during lunch in the library.

The Telling Room will be coming to Casco to recruit potential Young Writers and Leaders students this Thursday, 9/13 from 12:30-2 and again after school from 2:30-3:30pm in the Make It Happen Room. Applicants must be in grades 9-12 and born internationally, or the first in their family to be born in the United States. The ideal applicant would also be curious about creative writing, though no prior experience is required.

6:30-8:30- Open House (7pm for returning families)

Friday  The first meeting of the math team will occur this Friday in Canada at lunchtime.  Bring your lunch and see your math teacher for more info on exceeds credit/STEM endorsement hours for this club.   See co-captains Khang Le, Siri Pierce, or Isaac Tabb for more information.

Community Opportunities

The Portland Conservatory of Music is having an audition on Friday, the 21st of September at 4:00

in the afternoon for a chamber music group.

Applications for The Telling Room's  Young Emerging Authors fellowship are due 9:00am on Tuesday, September 25. More information, as well as a peek at the 2017-2018 books, here.

Reminder: Lunch: Students may eat in any open space on the 2nd floor – except the art room. Students are not allowed to eat lunch on the 3rd floor except with a teacher. On days with good weather, students may also eat outside on the front field (away from the PATHS building), or outback by the picnic tables or basketball court. Take special care to stay clear of the gorgeous new plantings and gardens by the greenhouse. And leave no trace!  Wherever you eat, be sure to leave no trace and to recycle and compost at the central location on the 2nd floor.

Any student leaving campus during the school day because of privileges or for an appointment MUST first sign out at the main office. This includes juniors or seniors planning to leave for lunch.
