Help Wanted
We want your bike! Got a bike sitting in your garage that you no longer use? Or do you have a bike that you'd like to tune-up for use this spring? The CBHS Bike Intensive is here to help! We are looking for bikes that we can repair. If you have an old bike that you'd be willing to donate to a student please let us know. We'll come pick it up and get it out of your garage. Or if you have a bike that you'd like us to rehab free of charge, let us know that, too. In both cases, we are looking for bikes that are in reasonably good condition that our students can use to build their skills as mechanics.
Please contact Stewart Croft at crofts@portlandschool.org or David Burke at burked@portlandschools.org
Help Wanted: I am looking for several parents who might be interested in joining staff and students on our Future Task Force, a group of students, parents and staff which takes a long-term view towards school improvement. Last year, the group worked on the Sophomore Solo and Junior Journey. This year the group will be working on how we can make CBHS “greener” in all aspects. The main commitment will be between 8am-2pm on Thursday, April 26th. Contact me FMI.

Help Wanted: Need to get rid of those clothes collecting dust in your closet? Need to update your wardrobe? Want to help the junior class raise funds for their Junior Journey coming up in April? If so, please join us for our Clothing Sale on Saturday, March 31st from 9:00am to 1:00pm on the 2nd Floor at Casco Bay High School. All items will be priced to fly off the table or hanger. We will also be selling items donated by local clothiers and shops. Please call 874-8160 x7205 For More Information.

Parent University The next Parent U session is called Saturday, March 31, 11:00-1:00 at Ocean Avenue School Library. Maine Boys to Men’s two-hour adult workshop is a brief but deep dive into issues currently facing young people in our community. The training is designed to begin a conversation about how our current culture of toxic masculinity creates a system of gender-based violence that not only harms women, but also men and other gender identities. Some of the issues we address in the training are gender identity, sexuality, consent, bystander intervention, and how to interrupt gender-based violence. This training is the first step in beginning a process of self-discovery and self-reflection necessary to challenge sexism and ultimately stand up as leaders to end gender bias, harassment, abuse, and violence. The 45-minute movie The Mask You Live In will be screened at 11:00, followed by the workshop at 12:00. Participants can watch the movie on their own, and then join the session at 12:00. The documentary is available on Netflix. Attached is the flyer for the event. Translations of the flyer in our major languages can be accessed through the district’s Translation Library. They are also posted on the ParentU website through this link: http://parentu.portlandschools.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=12460526&pageId=13037897

The Cabinet approved the following modified proposal for expanding the membership of Cabinet. Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, Cabinet will consist of 2 representatives per class (10-12), elected at the start of each school year.  Two freshmen representatives will be chosen at random out of a pool of interested students in the fall.  Two additional representatives will be chosen at random (and from any grade) in the fall from a pool of students interested in serving.  In addition, each spring, one 10th or 11th grader will be chosen to be the Cabinet Chairperson to serve the following year. Candidates will have the opportunity to briefly speak at school meeting before the election. In all elections, students will circle the names of all candidates on the ballot that they would want in the position. Thanks again to Phoebe Kolbert and Raizel McNally for the proposal and to all of the crews for their feedback.
