Cougar Kudos to Emma Hersey-Powers and the cast and crew of Lockdown for their terrific production.

It's Spirit Week, culminating on Friday with Winter Carnival (an 11:30 release day). Wednesday is also an 11:30 release for professional development.

The sophomores kick-off their Arc Towards Justice expedition today. The juniors will be conducting the first of their two interviews today and tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who's helped the junior team line up their interviews, especially junior parent community liaisons, Liz Ferguson and Stephanie Eglinton. 

The seniors hold their Casco Talks this Thursday from 1:30-2:30. All are welcome. Here's the schedule of rooms, crews, and student presenters

Farhiyo Mohamed has asked me to share her informative brochure about teen mental health with the CBHS parent body as part of the "slice of the solution" for her senior expedition. Thanks, Farhiyo! It is attached here. 
Upcoming: Please join financial aid expert Bill Smith on Tuesday February 26th from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Great Space at Casco Bay High School for an evening focused on " Steps for Smart College Financial Planning".  This event is geared to parents of 9-11 grades. CBHS Math Cup Save the date: March 27, 6-8
Our annual Math Cup is coming up in March and we would love your help! Do you know a company or organization that would like to participate or sponsor a student team? Please contact Jen Tabb via email at jen@jentabbsellshomes.com or by cell at 229-1547 - or pass on the attached Math Cup docs. 
We are also seeking donations of lasagna, salad, desserts, drinks and paper goods as well as volunteers for the day of the event. Please click the link here to sign up!

Do you want to share something at an upcoming School Meeting as “the Culture Moment”? Then please complete the google form here.


CBHS Students with 8th grade siblings. If you are a current 9-11th grader, your sibling has an automatic spot at CBHS next fall, but only if they turn in lottery and commitment form by this Friday 2/15. They still need to turn in a form. If you are a senior, your 8th grade sibling does not have an automatic spot. They would have an equal chance to get a spot as any other student in a lottery.


Juniors will be doing round #1 interviews on Monday and Tuesday - Good luck!

Tuesday - 11th Interviews/Culture and Pride Day

10 & 11 and 9 & 12: Buddy Crew Lunch (for Winter Carnival Event Sign Up) - To minimize line issues, grades 10 and 11 can go purchase lunch starting at 11:15. Grade 9 and 12 may buy lunches starting at 11:30. When not buying lunches, students should remain in crew spaces. Thanks.


The first meeting of the Future Task Force will be this Tuesday, February 12th - 2:40-3:45 in Ms. Hampton’s crew space. See Mr. Pierce FMI.


All are welcome to view Liam Swift's original film about mental health this Tuesday after school in China.


Sam Gahima’s Senior Expedition Culmination will take place during Acad on Tuesday in the former CBHS main office space (3rd floor).

Thursday -  Special Schedule for Casco Talks/Twin Day - (no academic support)

The Casco Bay Maker's will have a sale this Thursday (Valentine's Day) at lunchtime. We have new designs that include earrings ($3.00), necklaces ($6.00) as well as bracelets and rings. Final chance to purchase our products for friends and family for this holiday. Our next sale will be in May.


Casco Talks - 1:30-2:30 -   Team 12 thanks you in advance for making time and space for your crew to hear Casco Talks!  Seniors have prepared 5-8 minute talks about their journeys making change during senior expedition.

Model UN will officially start for all members on February 25th, in China at 2:30. Please be there if you are planning to participate. In the mean time, please join the google classroom at 6nl4hj and complete a google survey that is in the classroom so we can know what countries delegates want CBHS to request for. Thanks for your help.


Peer mediators, we will have a meeting Tuesday the 26th during ACAD in the fitness center. In the meantime please connect with your group members (groups posted on the google classroom) and start thinking about our upcoming conversation.

3/1- Junior Dance


Knock knock. Who's there? It's Casco Bay Comedy Night! Casco Bay Comedy Night who? Casco Bay Comedy Night Project Grad Fundraiser!  On March 22nd, there will be a comedy night held at CBHS to fundraise money for Project Grad and ANYBODY can sign up to perform!! There will be a sign up sheet in the Great Space this week. Acts must be appropriate and prepared by March 10th to be reviewed before the event. More details TBA. Ask Justin Anderson, Julia Burell, or Evie Ford if you have any questions.

 

Community Learning and Opportunities

Juniors: Are you a junior who is interested in STEM? Consider applying to the free University of Maine Consider Engineering Summer Program!  This program is sponsored by the UMaine Pulp and Paper Foundation and is a great way for current High School Juniors who excel at math and science to learn more about engineering, career options, and college life.  Applications are due no later than April 22nd and we will competitively select 102 students from across Maine. Talk to Ms. Kutvirt or check out the application instructions at https://mainepulpaper.org/consider-engineering/.


Creative Portland, in collaboration with a stellar group of volunteer curators and music producers, is producing a talent showcase featuring amazing musicians and performing artists, all from Portland, on Sunday Feb 17th at 4pm - HEAR HERE


There's something for everybody: a rapper, a pop singer, a strings ensemble, voices from Telling Room, drummers from Burundi and more) Let's celebrate together! Affordable Tickets are on sale at Porttix or at the Merrill box office behind city hall at 20 myrtle (12-6pm weekdays).


AFS Maine is awarding 20,000 dollars in local Scholarships to Maine High school students to Study Abroad in 2019!!!   Maine Global Explorers Scholarship

  • Two (2) scholarships of $8,000 are available for any year or semester programs.

  • Two (2) scholarships of $1,000 are available for any summer or global prep programs.
