Headline News

Thanks to everyone who participated in last week’s virtual conferences with your child and their crew advisor. We hope you found the conversations as useful as we did.

Tuesday will be a 12:30 dismissal due to conferences last week.

Congrats to our new school board rep, Haley Allen. Cougar Kudos to Leo Oster and his team Ratmonk Nation for earning the victory and eternal glory in our first ever (but not last) Casco Bay Conundrum. And thanks to the nearly 100 students, parents, alums, staff and judges who participated. Watch our @cascobayhs Insta this week and next School Meeting for some highlights.

Despite the state and national rise in COVID cases, Cumberland County is continuing to be labelled “Green” by state health and education officials- and evidence of transmission within our schools continues to be low, so Supt Botana has decided to stay the course with our plan for a “More Hybrid” schedule after Thanksgiving. As a reminder, for the week of November 30th, the last week of the trimester, that means that any 10th-12th student who would like to come in for the Learning Center may do so on their designated day (Monday for 10th, Thursday for 12th and Friday for 11th), but we will continue to use the existing hybrid schedule. For the start of the Winter Trimester (week of December 7th), we will begin to use the revised More Hybrid schedule and all non-remote 10-12 students will come in for two afternoons a week.

The Parent Advisory Group will be hosting a community discussion of the new Netflix documentary, The Social Dilemma as a part of our next meeting, Tuesday, December 8th from 5:30-6:30pm. This documentary is a provocative exploration of social media and its impact on all of us.  All students and parents are welcome. Watch the trailer here. Watch for the PAG meeting Zoom link after Thanksgiving.

The Fall Trimester ends Friday 12/4. Students should do all they can to be meeting course standards before then. Frost School is a final opportunity for students who have not quite yet made fall trimester standards to do so  Frost School will occur for eligible students over two Wednesdays, December 9th and 16th: 10:30-12:30 for grades 9 and 10 and 12:30-2:30 for grades 11 and 12.  Students with a HOWL of 3 in a course and an INC  or a 2+ will have an automatic invitation to Frost School; students with a course grade and HOWL grade of 2 may only be invited at teacher discretion. Watch for more details after Thanksgiving break.

Thank you so much for sharing ideas through the Possip Pulse on 11/13! We’ve heard from over 174 of you.  96% of you reported being happy or mostly happy with Casco Bay High School.  Most of the praise centered around an appreciation for crew and our caring teachers. I shared highlights with our full faculty, and they were most grateful. The most frequent concern shared was about maintaining and increasing hybrid learning with case counts rising.  Thanks again for sharing! The next Possip Pulse will be in December. You can expect to receive one every 3 weeks.
