Headline News - April 25, 2022

Juniors will be taking the SATs at school tomorrow. We are looking for donations of healthy breakfast foods (bagels, bars, fruit, juice, etc.) to nourish the juniors as they take this (very long!) test. We could also use a few parents to help with set up and clean up from 7:50am to 8:30am. Thanks in advance for any donations you can make!

As we launch into the final months of the school year, we wanted to take some time to pass along some wisdom related to College & Career as well as how to navigate the financial aid process. Please join Bill Smith, financial aid expert, as well as Michael Hale & Stephanie Doyle Casco Bay School Counselors THIS  Tuesday night April 26th, 2022 from 6:00-7:30 (on Zoom - Zoom Link ). We look forward to seeing you and answering any questions that you have.

Warmly,  Michael & Stephanie

This Wednesday 4/27 is an 11:50 staff development day for professional development.

Before break, we shared with students some updated guidelines about the use of personal technology (cell phones and headphones at school). The aim is to try to help students be more focused on their learning and to better manage their digital wellness. Details of the policy are here. You can help by not expecting your child to get right back to you if you text or call during school hours. There are designated times - outside of class time - when students can check and respond to messages. You can also call into our main office if you need to reach your child right away. Thanks for your support!

All are invited to Spring for Teachers, the Foundation for Portland Public Schools’ (FPPS’s)  annual fundraising event for our Equity and Innovation Teacher Grants program. This will be the first time FPPS is holding this event since 2019! It’s Wed, May 11, 2022 fron 5:30 PM – 7:30 at Bunker Brewing. FMI or get your tickets, go here.

Student Announcements for the Week are here

Help Wanted

Senior Parents: Save the Date!  Project Graduation will happen directly after Graduation on June 2nd, from 8pm until 6am the following morning.  This will be a fun and substance-free night full of activities for Seniors to cap off their high school career. The event is parent-organized and run.

We need more volunteers to make this happen for our children!  Please fill out your contact information here and we will back in touch with details on volunteer opportunities.  There will be a variety of tasks, from small to larger -- something for everyone to help out with. You can email Melissa McStay at [email protected] with questions about volunteering.

Reminder - Senior Families: Please ask your senior to bring a check in for $40 and give it to their advisor. The check should be made out to “Casco Bay High School.” $30 will cover the cost of their cap and gown and $10 will cover the materials cost for the class ring. Both items, of course, will be your child’s to keep. If your child does not want a class ring, please make out the check for $30. In cases of financial hardship, please let Mr. Pierce or your child’s crew advisor know and we will make the necessary accommodations. Thanks in advance for your prompt payment. You can find more details about the Class of 2022’s year-end events, including Graduation 6/2, here.

Hannaford Card Reload

Friends of CBHS,

Happy Spring!

The next reload/new card order will be SUNDAY, MAY 1st.

Remember a single card cannot have over a $500 balance. The new online reload system will not alert me if I am trying to reload more that your card can hold. It will simply kick your card out of the reload. It is important to check your balance prior to requesting a reload.  If you are not sure what your balance is, you can check the balance prior to reloading at https://hannaford.cashstar.com/recipient-experience/balance/. You will need the pin number under the gray sticker on the back of the card to check it.

Here's how it goes:

1. Email the amount you want reloaded and indicate the last 3 digits of your card or if you need a new card to [email protected]*

*If you are ordering a new card, be sure to send me your mailing address. Cards will be mailed out when I have received your funds and the reload is complete.

2. Send me a check made out to "CBHS-PAG" at

        Ellen Wills

        22 Northwood Drive

        Portland, ME 04103

OR

Venmo me at Ellen Wills (Ellen-Wills-1, the picture is of me in front of a Christmas tree) with a note as to your card number.

3. I will send an email out to the group when the funds have been loaded and the new cards are mailed.

 Thank you for supporting CBHS,

 Ellen
