Headline News - October 3rd

College Financial Aid Night with local expert Bill Smith is this Tuesday 10/5 at 6pm on Zoom. More information and the link are here. All are welcome.

Grade 11 will be culminating their first expedition this Thursday (and Tuesday the 12th).

Grades close for fall trimester progress reports this Thursday. There is no school in PPS on Friday.

Our next PAG meeting is a week from Tuesday, October 12th. We will be reviewing teacher grants and fall events as well as providing some tips for navigating Infinite Campus. Here’s a link to the minutes from our September PAG meeting. (Thanks Brigitte.)

Seniors who might quality or FRL should absolutely apply this year because it will enable them to get free college apps and eligibility for scholarships, etc:

As a reminder, students are strongly encouraged to bring their own clean, cloth mask to school each day. We will provide disposable masks as needed, but clean cloth masks from home are preferable.

Help Wanted: We could use some gently used backpacks and notebooks for students. Please drop off any donations to the main office.

We have a new student event coming up; The Fall Fete is coming on 10/23 (1 to 4pm). It will feature live music, DJ music, pot luck lunch, an art walk, as well as activities from  Pumpkin Decorating to Frisbee Golf and competitions from 3 on 3 soccer to baking. If you are interested in helping with this event, please contact Derek (piercd@portlandschools.org). In addition, we could use your help with donations for our pot luck lunch and snacks - as well as pumpkins for our pumpkin decorating competition. Thanks!

Here is another amazing opportunity to help our community. Furniture Friends is a volunteer organization that helps families in need, especially those of immigrant background who have just moved! Furniture Friends has decided to hold a challenge where we sleep on the floor. As crazy as it may sound... it is because there are families who have no choice but to sleep on the floor. You can donate to their fundraiser to help give these families a furnished home! To donate go here. f you decide to donate to Furniture Friends, would you please write "in support of the CBHS Interact Club" in the message box at the bottom

Thank you,

Fatimah Lamloom & Baqer Jalil

This week’s student announcements are here.

Reminder: if you are dropping off or picking up your students, it’s preferable to use the traffic circle unless the circle is filled with school busses.

Attendance Reminders

Regular, punctual school and class attendance is essential to a student’s educational success. Students are expected to attend school every day unless they have an excused absence. Excused absences are defined by Maine law and School Board policy as follows: personal illness; an appointment with a health professional that must be made during the school day; observance of a religious holiday; a family emergency; or a planned absence for a personal or educational purpose which has been approved in advance by the school. Other absences are considered unexcused and may result in disciplinary and academic consequences. Please report an excused absence by calling our attendance line (207-874-8270) or e-mailing cbhsattendance@portlandschools.org. Students may also bring a written note to the Main Office when returning to school. Students with a note, phone call or e-mail explaining a legitimate absence will be “EXCUSED” for attendance records. All others will be marked “UNEXCUSED.” Students are expected to arrange for and complete make-up work for excused absences. Teachers may establish deadlines for submission of make-up work.
