Headline News
Today begins the Winter Trimester.
First trimester grades will be viewable in IC by Thursday. Frost School starts next Monday. More information is attached. Students needing Frost School should plan on attending BK 7 this week and completing all work necessary ahead of time to prepare. Reminder: The fall trimester for Physics (only) will be extended until Friday, 11/30.

The December Parent Advisory Group meeting will be a week from tomorrow, December 4th at 5:30. All are welcome!

Help Wanted: 
1) We are piloting a small new food distribution program for our food insecure families beginning this Friday after-school (and continuing each Friday through 12/21). We are seeking a parent or two to assist with the food distribution between 2:00 and 3:30. Please contact Colleen Tinkham (cc'd here) if you can help out one or more of these Friday (phillytobins@hotmail.com). 


2) COLLECTING Gifts card

Details: I am collecting (still valid)  gift cards/certificates for a staff appreciation project.
If you have some collecting dust in a draw that you would like to donate or would like
to pick up a few, please drop them off in the Maine office - PAG has a mailbox.


3) The Staff Appreciation lunch - Wednesday, Dec 12 2018

Details: We will be hosting  an annual Holiday lunch for the teacher + staff .
We will order some sandwiches and hoping to  providing dessert, drinks and salads.

4) From Derek: I am looking for 8 to 10 parents who might be able to help answer questions and welcome guests at our 8th grade Family Night at on December 13th from 7:00-8:15. Please let me know if you are interested or would like more information. Thanks for considering.

Cougar Kudos to the Class of 2019: the percentage of students meeting/exceeding standards in the Class of 2019 exceeded state (and district) averages on every test last spring, by 2% in science, 11% in math and 17% in ELA.

 

Seniors: Congrats to the nearly 40% of you who have completed a college application. Support one another to getting to 100% by December 7th. Get One Done!

 

Student Ambassadors and Language Ambassadors are needed for 8th Grade Family Night, 2 weeks from Thursday on December 13th (6:30-8:30pm). Please sign up on the Sign Up Board.

Juniors and Seniors:  College Applications for SMCC/USM spring classes are due December 17th.  SMCC will be offering two college courses at CBHS after school on Wednesdays in the second semester (starting in January): Intro to Acting and Intro to Psychology. Monday – TST – 9th Grade Class Meeting (Library)/Seniors in Great Space

 

9-12 Students: Join Ms Loughlin in the DIY Studio (India) today from 2:30-3:30 pm. She will teach students how to design custom LASER cut wooden ornaments. NO charge to participate. Can't make it today Ms. Loughlin will offer a different project each Monday after school  between now and December break. Listen announcements in the cabinet bulletin each week.

 

Tuesday - 8:15-9:15  Solar Array Meeting

9th Graders and seniors involved in the pilot mentorship program should meet for lunch on Tuesday in China. Some pizza will be provided.

 

Students in the Internship Intensive: There will be a brief meeting of students in this intensive at the beginning of Acad on Tuesday in the Fitness Room. Internship host forms should be returned by this Friday. See the Google Classroom for resources to help.

 

Facilitator training for the next Courageous Conversation will take place this Tuesday Acad in the Great Space. The conversation will happen Thursday in crew.

Thursday’s schedule will be modified a bit to allow 40 minutes for Crew and the Courageous Conversation - Crew - 1:50-2:30

Community Opportunities

The Blunt Youth Radio Project is hosting an open house this Tuesday November 27, from 7:00-8:30 PM at 92 Bedford St. in Portland. Students can find out about youth radio and podcasting and get free training. Please share this information with students.There is free pizza and prizes for all who attend.

 

SEMI High Tech U, Dec 4-6th at SMCC

SEMI High Tech U, hosted ny ON Semiconductor gives students a chance to put their math, science and problem-solving skills to use during 3 days of hands-on and team-based activities. See Ms. Doyle or Mr. Hale FMI or apply for this free program (www.semifoundation.org)

 

Reminder The 13th Annual JA Titan Challenge will take place on Wednesday, February 27th, 2019 from 8:15am-2:15pm (snow date March 6th) at seven locations across the state. Sponsored by KeyBank, the day-long online business strategy competition is designed for high school students to learn business trends through teamwork and mentorship. Teams of three students work with a mentor from the business community to manage a virtual company in a competitive marketplace. See Mr. Pierce with your team of 3 to sign up.
