Welcome back freshmen. The sophomores will be climbing Mt. Agamenticus on Thursday. The juniors postponed team-building day at Fort Williams will now be Thursday as well. 

This Wednesday is an 11:30 dismissal for staff development. 

A week from Tuesday (10/9) is our next Parent Advisory Group meeting. All are welcome! (5:30-7pm in the Great Space). The agenda will include a student panel on teen life in 2018, a review of teacher grant proposals and preparation for the November Arts and Music Fest. 

The PSATs for grades 9-11 are next Wednesday (10/10).

Help Needed - PSAT Breakfast Donations for Grades 9-11 on 10/10
To help our students bring their very best to the upcoming PSAT tests (and help make the experience a little less painful), we are looking to host a healthy breakfast on Wednesday October 10th from 7:30-9:00a. We are seeking donations of breakfast foods (bagels, fruit) for approximately 300 students, any size donation is welcome. We are also looking for volunteers to set up, help with food distribution, and pick up. Please click on this link to enter your choice. Hey Smarty Pants, want to represent CBHS in Maine Public’s High School Quiz show? Then form a team of six and sign up on the Sign Up Board by this Friday, October 5th. The Quiz Show tests general academic knowledge through fast-paced, short answer questions. There will be a competition to determine the CBHS champions mid-October and then the winning team will complete a one-hour online test to see if they quality for the televised state-wide tournament and the chance for eternal glory.


If you have an idea for a great Winter Intensive, see Mr. Shibles or Ms. GIese by Wednesday.


We are looking for a class journalist and photographer to report on grade level expeditions and other big events for our periodic school newsletter. If you are interested in either role, see Mr. Leque/Ms. Crowley (9), Ms. Natarajan/Ms Koharian (10), Mr. Burke/Ms. McCray (11) or Ms. Doane (12). First deadline is this Friday. Thanks!


Juniors & Seniors- are you interested in Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont? If so, you can check out their campus for FREE! Champlain is offering a free bus trip on Monday November 12th, 2018. See Ms. Doyle for more information or register at champlain.edu/bustrip.

2) Please identify your crew’s 2 courageous conversation facilitators. Facilitator training will begin next week for grades 10-12 during Thursday Acad (10/11).  


If you speak more than one language, consider pursuing the district Seal of Biliteracy, a formal recognition of students' multilingualism. This honor is an asset to your college application, and can sometimes be used to fulfill college credit requirements. To learn more about the Seal, please join the Googleclassroom (code m3lmh2r) and keep an eye out for more announcements.

Seniors seeking the STEM Endorsement this year need to see Ms. Loughlin during Team Support Time today to review their progress toward completion. It should take about 5 minutes per person to check your status in advance of sending out your college applications that include a letter stating your status toward earning this endorsement on your diploma.

A-Z Alliance, our LGBTQ+ group, will meet on Fridays from 2:30-3:30 in Burundi. If you have questions, ask Ms. Haar or Zanayah Moore-Simms. A to Z Alliance is holding an open house to recruit new members, during ACAD on Thursday, October 11th. Watch for more details soon.

Club and Organizational Leaders of Groups that do not meet only during X Block: Does your organization meet at the same time every week (eg: Tuesdays at lunch)? Please add your information to the weekly meeting calendar on the sign-up board.


Both the House Band and the Vocal Ensemble have started at 7am'ish in the PATHS Music Room (1st floor). All singers and musicians are encouraged to join. Arts UPs are awarded for those participate all year and in the periodic concerts. Vocal Ensemble meets Tuesdays and Thursdays and House Band meets Wed’s and Fridays.


Community Opportunities

Voice of Democracy: One Voice Can Make a Difference compete to win the grand prize of a $30,000 scholarship.  A national patriotic speech writing competition open to 9-12th grade students. To enter the competition a student records a short, 3-5 minute speech expressing their interpretation of the assigned patriotic theme.  This years theme is: "Why My Vote Matters." The deadline is October 31st, 2018. See Ms. Doyle for more information


CBHS Alum Veeva Banga isI teaching an African dance class on Saturday, October 6th at 1 pm - 2pm. The location is Mayo Street Arts which is on 10 Mayo Street, Portland Maine. The class is $7 for students, cash or credit accepted.


Want to join Youth Court?  Portland Volunteer Training for Youth Court will take place on Mon. Nov. 5th- Fri. Nov. 9th from 3-6pm. FMI - email Monica at mbouyea@maineyouthcourt.org to get on our list. The training will take place at our office: 175 Lancaster St. Suite 217 A in Portland, and anyone is welcome!
